Domestic Conveyancing - We will guide you through the stressful process of buying and selling your home, re-mortgaging, buying to let and trusts for joint owners. We can also deal with boundary disputes, landlord and tenant problems and a claim for adverse possession.

Commercial Conveyancing - Includes sales and purchases of commercial land and buildings, leases and mortgages, business sales, licensing and planning. We look after all aspects of your transaction to make sure that your interests are protected.

Wills, Probate and Administration of Estates - We do try to impress upon clients the importance of making a will so that their estates are dealt with in accordance with their own wishes rather than by default. Inheritance tax planning is of greater significance to more clients than ever with the recent uplift in house values.

We can prepare powers of attorney and assist with Court of Protection receivership as necessary.

We can also act as executors or assist lay trustees with the work involved in collecting and administering your estate in accordance with your wishes.

Family Law - This covers a wide variety of matters including divorce and separation, financial and property settlements, cohabitation, civil partnerships, matters concerning children including access, residence and adoption, CSA, child maintenance and emergency injunctions.

Chestnutts recognise the personal and emotional challenges that face spouses, partners, parents or children  involved in a family law dispute and all matters are dealt with in a sensitive and practical way in order to resolve disputes as quickly and efficiently as possible.  This may include consideration of alternative ways of resolving disputes other than court proceedings including negotiation and mediation.

Litigation - Civil litigation (as opposed to criminal law) is the branch of law dealing with disputes between individuals and / or organisations, in which compensation, usually in the form of money, may be awarded to the victim.

It can often involve requiring another party to do something or not to do something.  Examples include breach of contract, actions for injunctions or cases in which the court is asked to declare the rights of the parties.

Here at Chestnutts, our litigation department can provide you with a range of services to cover all your litigation needs wether you are an individual acting in person, or an organisation such as a company or partnership.  We have experience in all aspects of contentious law including negligence and contract, debt and enforcements of judgments, partnership disputes, disputed wills and inheritance claims, property matters including disputes between neighbours, landlord and tenant, consumer credit, MIB, CICA, CSA claims and injunctions.

Your case will be handled by a Partner and/or a qualified Solicitor at all times.  We understand that there is great concern over the costs of pursuing or defending a claim.  We will advise you fully on the funding options that may be available to you which may include “no win no fee”, before the event insurance, a private retainer with flexible payment arrangements or funding by a third party such as the legal services commission.

We are committed to resolving disputes proportionately and efficiently and have experience in negotiation and mediation as alternative forms of dispute resolution.

Personal Injury - As the unfortunate victim of an accident you need expert advice to maximise the compensation to which you may be entitled. We will handle your claim efficiently and have links to other specialist professionals whose expertise in medicine and forensic accounting can make all the difference in complex claims.

Most claims are undertaken on a 'no win no fee' basis so that you will not have to pay us anything if you lose. We can arrange after the event insurance if appropriate in your case.

Employment - Sarah Lapsley has a history of successful results in the employment law field and has acted for both employees and employers.  Advice can be provided on a whole range of employment issues including compromise agreements, unfair dismissal, discrimination, redundancy, disciplinary and grievance procedures, stress and bullying at work, employment contracts and pension disputes.
